Important Facts About Piqua Shawnee Tribe

This tribe were originally nomads who were always moving from one place to another. After they moved across many areas in Northeast and Southeast. Economically they were hunter’s ad farmers meaning they were moving in search of animals and farming land. In addition to that, these tribes copied the dressing code of Europeans as they were moving from one place to the next. This tribe was also headed by chiefs such as Cornstalk, Blue Jacket and Tecumseh.

This tribe migrated to America from their original homeland which was a place known as Tennessee around Cumberland river. In new place their lifestyle was being determined by the natural resources, climate and the geographical set up of the region. As a result of their semi-nomadic lives some of them decide to interact and join the native Indian culture. But due to constant civic war in America some of the Shawnee were blended into Cherokee Nation also known as Cherokee Shawnee. In addition, they were also living in different places according to their economic practices. For example, the nomadic Shawnee lived in birchbark houses which were located in woodland areas.

They made this their houses in a small cone shaped with arched roofs that were majorly made with some wooden frames. This wooden frame was covered with buffalo hides being that it was a major resource in that area. This house was usually about 8-10 feet tall and 10-15 wide.

Apart from that this tribe was speaking a native language known as Algonquian. In addition, the food that they were eating was being determined by the resources that were found in the areas where they were living. Being that they were hunters they were eating meat from buffalo, deer, elk and wild turkey which was supplemented with roots and some vegetables. Others who were living in the woodlands were eating fish, squirrel, deer, raccoon, bear and beaver which was supplemented with corn maize, pumpkin, squash and beans. Adding on that the people who were living in the Southeast were eating things like rabbit, turkeys, wild hogs, eagles together with corn, dried fruits, pumpkins and nuts.

When it comes to weapons they were using bows, arrows, clubs, hatchet, axes, spears, lenses and knives and rifles. With these weapons they were able to protect themselves, do hunting and some they were using in the farm. Being that they were dressing like Europeans but they had different types of cloths depending with the season. For example, during warm climate they were putting on breach cloths while during cold weather they were putting on finger tunics, shirts and leggings.
